Yamadori style a different perspective.

Would love to come back and see "Doug" in a hundred or so more
just to see what he develops into. Bet it would still be an awesome
flavor of gorgeous.

You don't really appreciate how big that tree is until you see the person at its base in the last picture. Is there also someone in the branches?
I think so, I took the pic from an article about people climbing and measuring the tree.

Amazing how that tree grew so big so straight. Its beautifull
Sure is isn't it.
Of course it was not always so lonely, growing up surrounded by others makes big tall and straight a lot easier! I've realized through trying to take photos and look for photos of nice big old conifers that it's really hard to get a photo showing the detail of crown branches and structure because they are hidden up there in the capnopy with clustered backdrops. We get such a good view of this tree now that it's in the middle of a clearcut. Hopefully it doesn't get blown over now that it stands all alone.
I guess by the look of the forest around the edge of the clearcut this might not be the first time the tree stood alone though, survivor of a past fire possibly.

Can you see three climbers on that old Dougie?

I have a piece of petrified wood thats between 50 and 100 pounds that I'm saving for "the right tree"... but I think it would have to be a front yard feature that would be stationary for life... hardly a bonsai... wicked colours in it though...

The vertical branch on the RHS of that Dougie would be about as tall as a tree you'd expect to find out here in the Prairies... lol

@wireme I do think you're crazy, but that's beside the point because we all are here!!!

I don't care that my little tree (yamadori or otherwise) doesn't look like a real tree (especially if it's got some wackiness going on) but in general I prefer that it does (look like a real tree).

What I mean is I like little trees in pots and they don't have to make sense in the real world for me to enjoy them.

+1!

Can this olive that was uprooted, left on the side of the path and that sprouted again ever look like a bonsai? I doubt it, but who can tell if an isnpired "artist" couldn't design a bonsai like that? Anyway, it was great to look at, it has a story and tells us something about life.
