Oh. Being a southern tree, I think it does quite well here since we have mild winters, as long as I keep it watered.

I post this pic all the time when people ask if BC can take climates out of the southern U.S. the BC in the middle of the photo was originally collected in the Achafalaya swamp in Louisiana. That was 30 years ago. I’ve overwintered outside under mulch for all those winters. Snow cold (not arctic cold) are part of its life. It is very hardy if allowed to acclimate with fall frosts and shallow freezes

Yes, I have seen that pic.
Before last year, I thought it would be too warm and dry here for a BC. Seems they are fantastic trees that can thrive in different environments.

I just noticed that the buds are beginning to swell on the trunk. The buds on branches aren't quite there yet. It's happening a couple week earlier than last year.
I plan to repot this spring, so I might have to do it this weekend or the next.

I repotted on Sunday 2/16/2025.
It needed a repot badly. The goal with the grow box is to allow the roots more room to grow laterally, hopefully adding a little width at the base over time.

- The roots were circling and it was tough to get it out of the pot.
- Trimmed quite a few of the longer roots and downward growing roots.
- Removed branches I don't want.
- Trimmed and wired branches I do want, hoping to begin getting some ramification on those.
- I repotted the tree a little crooked, which I tried to fix. I want the trunk going straight up, not leaning as it is.

It's a La Nina year, so our winter has been really mild and dry. We've already had temps in the 80s (currently 50s - 60s), so many of my trees woke up a month earlier than they did last year.Excellent!! Mine are just beginning to thaw out...

I just received my 10 BC seedlings from the Arbor Foundation!
I put them in old soil (bonsai soil and garden soil).

The BC's I got from the Arbor Day Foundation are alive! Well, 7 out of 10 are alive!
To fit in the pot, I had to remove the lower few inches of taproot. On a couple, I should have put more soil around the upper roots. I'll leave those there in case they are just late to the party.
