Seasons? Not remotely. Our weather is very mild, with the exception of seasonal winds.

Oh. Being a southern tree, I think it does quite well here since we have mild winters, as long as I keep it watered.

We have them up here in Michigan! There are lots of Dawn Redwoods too.

I post this pic all the time when people ask if BC can take climates out of the southern U.S. the BC in the middle of the photo was originally collected in the Achafalaya swamp in Louisiana. That was 30 years ago. I’ve overwintered outside under mulch for all those winters. Snow cold (not arctic cold) are part of its life. It is very hardy if allowed to acclimate with fall frosts and shallow freezes

Yes, I have seen that pic.

Before last year, I thought it would be too warm and dry here for a BC. Seems they are fantastic trees that can thrive in different environments.

I just noticed that the buds are beginning to swell on the trunk. The buds on branches aren't quite there yet. It's happening a couple week earlier than last year.

I plan to repot this spring, so I might have to do it this weekend or the next.

I repotted on Sunday 2/16/2025.

It needed a repot badly. The goal with the grow box is to allow the roots more room to grow laterally, hopefully adding a little width at the base over time.

• The roots were circling and it was tough to get it out of the pot.
• Trimmed quite a few of the longer roots and downward growing roots.
• Removed branches I don't want.
• Trimmed and wired branches I do want, hoping to begin getting some ramification on those.
• I repotted the tree a little crooked, which I tried to fix. I want the trunk going straight up, not leaning as it is.
