What's your dream tree?

How about a sakura tree with small leaves and short internodes that can get really old without any dieback or disease and keeps its blossoms for 2 months

I suppose if I could find a chuchin sized JWP that didn't have any flaws that might do it for me. I had a really nice JWP for a long time, but seeing the little flaws every day finally made me move it out.
Although I have to say I already have a dream tree or two in my stable, the Kurume, the Kozan and the Korean Hornbeam (s), lol... All K trees, funny that.
I think the one tree that I've lusted after here the most is a tree Adair has... White pine on Logdepole pine trunk? Can't remember what the trunk stock is if that's not it.

I also like the branching style like that tree and the bonsai that come from Taiwan. Much better than American bonsai, imo- not sure what they do differently.

I think that the point is that they do a more naturalistic style, the bonsai looks like real trees. You can see some outstanding photo galleries here click, click, they are a bit old, but interesting indeed.
The branches have tapper, movement, and natural growth look, simply clever.

Deciduous looks like deciduous, and evergreen like evergreen. That must be very difficult to understand because in most cases all the bonsai are styled in the same way: juniperus, pines, figs, elms: hanging branches for everyone! No matter the natural habit of growth 🤮

Cheers.

ive seen these before, but no harm seeing them again. oh man, the celtis, zelkova's and chinese elms out of Taiwan are just breathtaking. i have so many of these in an inspiration folder.

Personally , many trees attract me by their beauty and the quality of the work and I would like to be able to observe them for real (exhibition, store, museum ...) but would I like to have one of them on my shelves ...

I am not so sure and for several reasons first of all the few other very modest trees that I already have would probably appear to me less beautiful in comparison , moreover the more a tree is of value and the more its possible loss would affect and the need for impeccable maintenance would be essential.

In short, a very beautiful tree implies a great deal of responsibility.

Finally, I think I will find more pleasure in trying over the years to see a small modest tree evolve than simply observing one because there will probably not much to do on it given its beauty and the quality of the work done on it for many years.

Ill be the first throw in Bald Cypress, I want a "perfect" formal upright, an informal, a dome forest with "sawgrass" around it, and a flattop. I want both small and massive specimens of each! I don't have to buy them thankfully, just collect/grow/propagate them. Also a live oak cluster.

afraid that with time, you will come to admire some trees which you know are not within your lifespan to grow yourself at that level..

Very true. I already do on larger oaks, cypress etc. if I cant collect them hopefully eventually I'll be able to afford the cost of the larger trees I like. I don't have an interest in the pedigree of a tree, just the look and size are what I'm concerned with. I hope in the next 50 or so years I can achieve my goals though.

1. Deciduous trees: I prefer ones with thick old looking trunks, rough (not too rough) bark and small leaves, such as hawthorn, field maple, elms and oriental hornbeam.
2. Conifers: Japanese White Pine, Bald Cypress.
3. Styles: Formal upright, Informal upright and Twin trunk are my favorite styles.
3. Size: Big bonsai only. I am not interested about small and shohin size bonsai at all.

@coh I have a Water Jasmine from Wigert's, not a monster but I like it. It was blooming this spring when I received it and has exploded with growth this summer. I also have a Gardenia that is blooming for the second time this summer. Just as a potted plant, because they were my mom's favorite. Not sure what I'll do with it this winter though.
