You can always buy another for bananas- heres mine in not a whiskey barrel but a large plastic pot. Something about that much foliage in a small container is appealing. Same effect with what Leo said, he may have convinced me to make one too...
Thats sweet. Would be nice as bigger tree for patio or unique spotHello all!
Aquired this pretty cool (and great smelling) whisky barrel from the mother in law.
Looking for ideas of what to put in it please! Big tree? Some of my smaller ones to grow out? Haven't got measurements but it's probsbly 60cm ish? I've had a few beers (not whiskys) so that could be an inaccurate guess!
Open to suggestions (not whisky though - it doesn't agree with me )
The banana monoculture is a pretty interesting story. The bananas your parents ate are different from the ones we eat, and it looks like the ones our children will eat are going to be different from the ones we eat now.
discover - bananas
I know, I sound a lot like @Leo in N E Illinois

Ahh far too small a container for that! The drainage holes could cause issues with that toogoldfish
Thought about on the patio, but ours was far from professionally done (we did it ourselves) - I don't think it could handle it!Thats sweet. Would be nice as bigger tree for patio or unique spot
Always great thoughts on here, you guys know your stuff mm I did wonder if I'd done enough, could always add moreGreat ideas all. It is going to be fine I am sure but I would have put more holes in the barrel.
That would have been really cool, I'd thought about a dogwood too, but yeah went with a JM!I say a nice big redbud (cercis).
I sure would.I did wonder if I'd done enough, could always add more
i think that bloodgood maple is nice in there, and in the location against fence.I sure would.
BTW, I like the redbud idea. There are a lot of cool cultivars. I have variegated, gold, purple and weeping ones.
Though I do like the mixed bamboo idea as well. I also have a small collection of them.
guppies. and get a pond liner.Ahh far too small a container for that! The drainage holes could cause issues with that too
Will get on that before I plant. Will definitely keep the redbud idea for future, and definitely bamboo! Are they easy to keep?I sure would.

The first lot of photos in this thread are my mother in law's garden, the garden with grass is mine. She loves the mini greenhouse though, has been growing veggies in iti think that bloodgood maple is nice in there, and in the location against fence.
