Is there a specific reason you didn't want to pull it out and do a full repot? Did you apply that product in the bag to the tree?

Photo tax. The burning bush I dug out of the woods last week.

Yes. Mainly because I wanted to go to a 3rd year from last repot (was 2023 last repot),
but also the candles are nearing opening up. Time to spray preventatively for needlecast.
Prefer to repot as the candles are beginning to move, plus this pot is rather tight, so I'm
looking for another one too.

The Infuse granules are a systemic fungicide applied to the soil now and after candles open.
Also applied Micromax by Julian Adams.

Weirdo...
...hate these triple headed candles on this lone mugo pine. Happens every year.

Uncovered the cold frame.
Packed for my week trip to MABS. 🙂

Repotted my 6 experimental maples into pots that are more stable and soil that won't stay too wet. Hope to use these to practice taking cuttings and all will eventually be air layered for bonsai eventually.

Opened up the shades and let the sunshine in.
Buds break too easily to do much Fall work
but too many interior buds were shaded.
20 months in training from nursery can.

This is the tree that throws the crazy triple bud heads.

Can't wait for the bark to plate and blend the knuckles with the trunk. Pumillio

A productive day!

1) Wired an Italian stone pine (a former table-top Christmas tree) to prepare it for raft style. Walked by it yesterday and said "Duh! It's a raft not a cascade."

2) While wiring the pine in a big wind a large common Boxwood blew over and spilled a lot of soil. Wasn't planning on repotting it but did...from a training pot into a nice bonsai pot. Think it will be a windblown tree (ha, ha). It's about 2.5 ' tall and originally came out of a planter box between condo decks. It's about 40 years old.

3) Drilled rock. Didn't get all the way through but will be buying a diamond plug cutter to finish the job. Used a cobalt bit and diamond coated grinding bits on an electric drill (wasn't trying to get through with a chisel!) Seemed like going with those was going to take a while so I'll spend some money for a decent plug cutter.

It has been four to five weeks for this group of JBP and JRP that I grafted. Took a little time this morning to check for signs of progress. Was pleased to see the terminal buds on the scions were beginning to swell and extend. Most have doubled their length from the time they were grafted. positive signs that the grafts are beginning to take. The next few weeks will be critical and care will need to be taken to gradually open and expose the scions over an extended period. Some times it is best to place a branch in the position desired.IMG_4202.jpegIMG_4204.jpeg

Still in the garden taking pictures this morning. Eleven year old cuttings of Dwarf Chojubai ( red ) currently in 10 inch diameter terracotta Azalea style pots! These three cuttings were taken from an original cutting gifted to me by Michael Hagedorn. They are not thirty years old yet so no signs of corky bark. Thorns on the longer extensions.IMG_4206.jpeg
Time to consider repot, root propagation and deciding what portion to continue growing out for styling. They have been in these pots for the past four years and are pushing lots of suckers beside the original central cutting.

I've been quite busy as of late doing a whole lot of random things here and there. I aquired a new kitten (much to the chagrin of my resident cat), in the process of fixing my car, and slowly working on my retaining wall in the extra free time/non rainy days.

Spring has been here for about a week. All of my plants are starting or in the process of waking up. My "garden" is an organizational mess at the moment while I am working on the yard.

Pictured here is all of my seedlings and saplings. Plenty of newly emerged trees/plants plus the repotted saplings.

My trees not needing a repot this year are nestled together over on the side of the house.

Below are the trees and other plants requiring repotting this year. I am hoping to start tackling this tonight when it gets too dark to work out in the yard.

Here is the progress of my wall. The trenching went quick with the excavator almost a month ago. The rest has been hand work to level the trench and transporting dirt behind the trench for back fill. I have a foundation Gravel delivery arriving next Tuesday. There is also a large old stump I am working on removing or reducing.
