Hi all- I am new here and I am in some desperate need of help! I saved this poor P. Afra from a coworker who was going to toss him. He has been getting new growth for it to only die off a bit later. In all my researching I haven’t found anything that looks like him since he has pretty much no leaves. I have LED light I will be placing him under. When went to repot him am trying to repot him, I took him out of his pot and was shocked by the lack of roots. I scratched a tiny bit of the trunk and it’s geeen underneath. At the bottom though it’s a green white and I am wondering if this is bad? I really would love to get him happy and healthy but I am not sure if that is possible. Can anyone help?!

It is good that you have it by a window. They really love light. How often are you watering it? Has it had a lot of time where the soil has been dry? Looks like it is in potting soil, you could add some pumice to it, or use a succulent mix for repotting. Give it time to bounce back. I have grown some from cuttings without any roots and they look like they are dying for a while but with consistent watering and sunlight they grow roots and new leaves.

These plants are very resilient and can regenerate pretty easily

I’ve also been shocked by the small amount of roots I will see when repotting healthy Jade and P Afra.

I would secure it nicely into the pot when replanting. With an With a small rootball, youll want to help this tree be secure. and use at least a commercial cactus mix if you don’t have access to pumice, lava, calcined clay, or DICHOTOMOUS EARTH, etc.

Lots of light. Good luck.

Thank you @Charlo! I took the advice - I got succulent mix, repotted in a smaller shallow pot and placed him back in the window. I secured him with some sticks and wire so the trunk is supported in the shallower pot. I will just be keeping an eye out and hoping for the best!!

Thank you! I did buy a succulent mix and placed him in a smaller, more shallow pot after I scoured the internet for more information. I greatly appreciate your reply to my post. Hearing other people and their experiences gave me more hope!
