Many folks here know I am not really interested in flowers, but don't mind working with flowering trees if they also make good bonsai. Well, Bougainvillea are some of the best bonsai trees here for sure: Easy to keep alive and grow, and often capable of wonderful styling with or without flowers.

Here are two slant Bougies I picked up a couple of months ago when visiting my wife's family in Bicol Province down south. Both are still wired, although the wires are partially erased in the photos for aesthetic reasons, but I don't really think the wires are needed since they seem firmly established in their slant positions now as far as I can tell - but I'm just going to leave the wires in place for another month or so to be sure. They are both now pushing lots of new growth, some onto old wood, but I think I'll keep the amount of foliage in check on both I have styled the one to be a literati as well as a slant, as can be seen. I forget what I was told or saw about the color of the flowers, but even the worst of Bougy flowers are great ... we'll see.

Enjoy!

Really nice trees looking forward to learning from you about this style.

There's not much to learn, really. They just need to be anchored somehow until they've had enough time to put out enough roots to anchor themselves in their slanted posture, and that will depend on the type of tree, the climate, the soil and the care and such. Give me a heads up if you post one that you're attempting to style and I'll be happy to chime in.
