The Tree Thread

Are they safe where they are. Looks like they are almost in the open.

I bought this one about 12 years ago from Lowes when I just start interested in bonsai. It been growing quite a bit. The soil has been receeding quite a bit and expose those roots. The ones under the trunk have rotted. I trimmed it back a bit on Sunday. @Cadillactaste

My “Telperion JBP”. Repotted, and potting angle changed to reduce the severe forward lean, and turned a bit counter clockwise. These changes transform the tree from being a squat informal upright to being a slant with more movement.

The branches and pads need minor repositioning due to the angle change. This will be done when it gets decandled in July.

Here is an old Washington Hawthorn. 30” tall, multiple white flowers every year. Multiple problems stylistically with the tree, too tall, limited taper in bottom 1/2 tree and poor nebari. Yet I don’t want to let it go, started by Dr. Bruenner in Seattle, who has since passed. Several of his (better) trees are in national collections. What to do to improve?

Air layer, keep top 2/3? Keep all of tree, and apply root grafts? Several shoots emerge every year from the base, which I have turned down into the soil and have rooted, poor man’s root grafts.

Any ideas appreciated. E69780B2-0627-4868-A48E-D796A9E1A529.jpegE69780B2-0627-4868-A48E-D796A9E1A529.jpeg72003E50-550E-427F-8C94-2B09B173E1E1.jpeg2F6E2B9C-0A88-47CF-B062-72193AC95108.jpeg

A few of my JBP that I just took out of the ground and re potted into 15 gallon pots. Been growing in the ground for the last 2 years and will be going back into the ground with pots shortly. Will need to put some more movement in the branches, but looking good so far.
