Curious if anyone thinks one of these pots would look good with this spirea? These are on one of the FB auction sites and I like the potters style. The last is an oval but the glaze is pretty dope. It’s possible the glazes are a bit too understated for the tree and maybe the clay body is too light?

Soooooo. Also. I certainly didn’t intend for this thread to be my personal pot pairing thread. There has got to be someone else who needs pot pairing advice or suggestions.

I had this question about a ficus I have a few months ago. I posted a thread for it back then.

I probably have other trees getting to that point but I'm not to that point yet 🤣

It's hard to tell the scale of these pots. Without seeing them side by side in actual scale to the tree, it's difficult call. I'd go with the blue one all things being equal. It's small and tight enough not to overpower the tree. The other two look too heavy and large for the tree.

The one with that blue flare I think would look great. Very nice contrast with the flowers.

I’ll play! I could use some suggestions for this shohin itoigawa juniper.

Current pot is too deep, I think, and was never really intended to be a “final” pot for this tree.

Here are a couple options I am looking at online:

I also have another round Sam Miller. Same width as current pot, but only 2/3 as deep and grey unglazed.

Other suggestions welcome!

I like the glaze of 3 and the shape of 1, and again would need to see the pots and tree together to judge fit.

Sorce: How would you like to show me how you made the breakout on the first pot in this post? I love it! I can see a tree leaning hard to the side overhanging the pot and looking like it's escaping it's confines. Great work.

It's just a continuation of slab rolled out to the cracking point and rolled down a bit.

suggestions

I think you could lose more depth.

The color of the tree pic takes away some detail but it seems that pot is the most complimentary color.
Better pic?

Is it's color closest to the middle chocolate one?

Yes, I would say the color is closest to the middle, perhaps a bit more rust color.

These are all too clunky for your tree, which is off to a great start, BTW. With the nice base and curvy trunk, this tree needs something a little more sophisticated, with richer color and detail. Here are a few shapes and glazes that would look good, IMO, without knowing size.
These are offered by Matt O. on eBay.

I like the darker clay for sure, but I feel like the tree needs a more curvy pot.

Thanks Brian. I hadn’t considered a moko shaped pot. It was JudyB who also suggested a blue glaze, in particular a blue and white hand painted.

Yeah, I agree with Brian, those are just too heavy feeling. If you do go take a look at painted pots, you will see that the majority of them are light in feeling, as the painting is the dominant part of the pot, instead of the pot itself.

This thread is perfect because I have this soft touch holly that I'd like to throw in here, I'd like to put this in a pot next spring20210831_192207.jpgoriginally I had one with this shape in mind Screenshot_20210831-194847_Google.jpg
This pot @sorce posted is also wonderful20210819_075927.jpgi could be completely wrong but I'm here for any input
Specific handmade pots or just style and color

For discussion.
I like the simplicity of the design and it's well executed. I like the subtle changes in texture and color and the slight blue/green tinges on the bottom make it for me. It's a quiet pot...It's not screaming, "Look at me! I'm a pot. I'm a pot!" It would pair with a great number of trees but it's a stand out.

I think they both have elements of shape that pair well. The hexagon's hexagon wall, moves well with the right low branch.

Mine, mostly straight to compliment the straight elements of the tree, and, though it's hard to tell in that picture, has a roundedness of foot with that glaze drip that compliments the roots.
I think it has too much color for the red berries.

The hex color would contrast more comfortably with berries, but I would seek it on a white pot, which would make that blue brighter. It seems a little dull for red berries. I believe the window on it also adds too many horizontal structure lines and formalness for the more playful nature of the roots. I think they would feel disconnected.

Thanks for the kind words @Katie0317.
