I have no idea if it's common or not. I don't know of anyone who grows the way I do.
I stopped trying to grow them under a commercial model. I stopped tilling. I mulch a lot and work towards cultivation of beneficial microbes and what not. It turns out that this makes for great shallow root systems. I also trim them constantly getting up to 4 or 5 flushed of growth on my larch a season. Its an evolving process but seems to be moving in the right direction.How do you grow them!? They look really refined with great branches for prebonsai stock.. well done!
And what about those trees on the bench!? Isn't it time for them to come down??

The oldgrowth was preserved because the ravine was too steep for the clearcutting that happened in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
They're just normal woods for around here with a fancy title.Thanks God for Elevation changes!
