Haha. It's a finicky one but I love it. I honestly don't know how you manage these maples in zone 4, or how you're already leafing out ahead of me in some cases.

My Peve Multicolor is now moving on to yellow white instead of pink white. Can't complain.

Do you have Murakumo? Another fun one with speckled leaves. I'll try to take a photo of mine tomorrow.
I should also add, that this has been an incredibly mild winter here, so everything is waking up earlier than normal.

Only 900+ more to go to have all named cultivars 🤣

I think there is a fun 5-year contest to be had here. Who can amass the largest japanese maple cultivar collection? But with the added twist they all need to be on their own roots, or at least grafted appropriately for bonsai.

Back on topic, one of my favs:

That would be a dangerous contest!
Is that Beni Tsukasa?

Mine are just starting to open up. Pic's coming soon! I had to have it after I read @clem 's thread.

Here are a few more.

Where is your Akaji nishiki from? I bought one from Mr. Maple this year.
I have a bonsai book that says Seigen and Akaji nishiki are the same and that it has been called Akaji nishiki since ancient times. They certainly look the same to me

Mine is from Conifer Kingdom. We'll have to see if they are even the same Akaji nishiki... 😂
I don't know if it's exactly the same as Seigen, but they are definitely similar. I'm still not entirely sure what the true Seigen looks like here in the States.
