Shohin Zelkova

I love the long shot! It's such a great perspective for that photo. Looks great up close too.

Yes I included it because it does give you a better idea of its small size. This is one of the trees I will be exhibiting at the Winter Silhouette Expo. The plan is to use it as part of a three point display.

Nevew knew Zelkovas turned red in autumn.. i thought they were just plain yellow as chinese elms do.

Nice to know! Will think about getting one for the horde

Some do while others don't. I think most are red/orange.

This tree is developing well. This year it was not defoliated and was left alone only pruning back the strong shoots.
The tree is striking, especially unclothed, and the photos are stunning as well.
Thanks for the chance to see it here.

Yeah I really like the looks of the Zelkova. I have some seed in the frig now wanna have them ready for this spring. was hoping to do some multi trunk styles and maybe even a forest seen but now that I see this I may have to think in another direction. I do think the one in the last picture has to much pot all that room on the one side looks kind of funky and what Adair said about the nabari makes sense to me although I am really new to Bonsai

when are we getting the @MACH5 annually-released calendar by the way? :)

(I think it would be fun to curate too!)

LOL! Well now seriously speaking, I have thought about doing some sort of a bonsai "art" book. Not a "how-to" book (God knows the world doesn't need another one) but just pictures formatted in an exciting fresh way that speaks more to the idea of bonsai as a legitimate art form and not just a "hobby" for retired folks. Not sure yet what that may be or look like. But... first I need to make my trees better

Zelkova tonight. Bright yellow/orange this year instead of the usual red. Makes me smile!

Serge, I’m gonna go against everyone and tell you I don’t really like these pictures.
It looks like it’s “made” now I don’t now what you did in photoshop or if that’s the problem but it just doesn’t feel right . I think it is the color of the pot. Even the moss looks out of place to me. It shows especially with the black background.

So maybe in reall life it looks better butif it does, then it’s a photography problem and I’m sure you can go better in that case.
But hey, that’s just what I think

I like the pot and the tree looks very good though ...
