Shimpaku Help

Thanks Woody! I put it in a 1 gallon container today with the intention of giving it a few seasons to grow and become truly healthy. I used a 2/3 cactus soil and 1/3 perlite soil per recommendation of a member of my local bonsai club. I'm going to continue to increase the size of the nursery pot until it has reached the point I like. I am very new to the hobby and I don't believe I've truly began to think about all the artistic aspects just yet. Still trying to keep these suckers alive!
 
You ought to consider screen-sodded planters or pond baskets. You will not get the advanced growth you might get in the ground but you will get the trunks to expand.
