So we dipped to 9° early last week. In a few days 80s. The weather is delusional. Those are spring temperatures, at least 3 weeks early. My daffodils were peeking out of the ground before the sub freezing highs. I'm sure they'll really take off now.

How do you feel about visitors?:p

I prefer visitors that don't eat my trees. No rabbits, rodents, deer, aphids, etc.
She'll bring flowers and plant cuttings. She has a t-shirt that reads "Will water for Warm weather." :)

Little bit of everything.

Well.. We are in for another regular winter stretch. Thawing during the day, and down to ~24F over night for the weekend.
Glad I did not pull out my mediteranean species yet.

After that, longer term it seems we are FINALLY in for a week or two of broken clouds and something that almost looks like winter.
At least temps that will keep the trees dormant a little longer. With this, budbreak will stay away till march. Could not be happier.

Clear skies and lows above freezing for the next week. It'll be nice getting outside more, but all of my trees are frozen solid, and I don't want them thawing out yet. We're not done with hard weather for another couple months. Any suggestions to help keep my trees frozen for that long?

No but on the ground in a protected area with no sunlight and mulched will prolong the frozen condition a few days on the N side of a building.
It mutes the spikes of temp max/min values.
Native trees in their normal setting will be experiencing these freeze thaw cycles just fine.
For a handful of trees there are some lower cost manual defrost upright and chest deep freezers.

I'm concerned as well. Almost every year we have a warm up at the end of February. This is too early and too warm. My trees stay on the north and/or east side of the house and fence year round. I'm keeping them insulated and out of the sun to try to keep them from breaking buds.
In the summer, they get afternoon shade to reduce water loss. It seems the shade doesn't slow their growth.

They're just sitting under the benches in the backyard mulched with fall leaves, away from the house but plenty of wind protection. Not much direct sun this time of year. I'm thinking about using some pallets or similar to box them in a bit more, keep them shaded so that maybe it stays cooler. Just worried about the high winds we're supposed to be getting intermittently knocking things over.

Happy February or 2nd half of Winter.
Of schools I've been subbing at this my favorite is a tiny little mountain town west of here. Their sophomore class this year is huge; a whole 14 students. 🤣 Kindergarten through 12th around 100 students. It's the only case in substitute teaching that I get to know all my students.
Anyway, it's a 40 minute drive through a rugged canyon. I keep waiting to run into that on my way in, and there's no cell phone service most of the way, so I wouldn't even be able to tell them why I didn't show if it happened.

After a week of gray, gloomy days, the sun is finally shining.
Here the clouds and fog and drizzle and rain have moved and we are in for a week without them it seems. Third morning in a row waking up to cloud-free skies (And thus dropping temps).
