I understand, Iām just trying to get into Bonsai myself and have been searching for blackthorn. At this time all I could offer is a crabapple that I grew from seed about two years ago. Would it be possible to continue discussing offline about the ins and outs? As far as a price for the material, Iām going to post a message I recently sent in reply to a person wanting to buy from me:
[Purchaser]
I originally posted under a few tree seedling trading-themed topics because the idea of trading one of my duplicated species for species of tree that I wanted seemed like a better fit for me than selling a seedling outright.
Iām neither a nurseryman nor a bonsai expert. Iām just a regular guy that discovered the joy of growing things from seed. I would love to become a competent practitioner in the art of bonsai but, Iām in no rush. As with growing from seed, Iām simply enjoying dipping my toe in the bonsai waters.
My initial motivation for growing trees (and shrubs) was to supplement the limited variety of species available to me on Cape Cod. I now have a decent variety of seedlings . . . many of which are conducive to bonsai.
Iām fine with having duplicates of each species knowing that if the local wildlife, disease, or weather doesnāt kill my trees, there is a good chance that I will kill them through neglect or ignorance.
Several people have contacted me wanting a particular species. Theyāve told me that I already have everything they would have to offer so, they would prefer to purchase some of my seedlings. Iām not opposed to the idea of selling however, I am having difficulty coming up with a price that would make it worth my while. Iām sure I have an overly inflated sense of what my time and effort is worth but, that would be mainly what Iād want to be compensated for. Also, I take into consideration the cost/difficulty of replacing a particular species if I ended up killing the one or two I set aside for myself. For instance, I found it impossible to purchase species like Juniperus rigida, Prunus spinosa, Cedrus brevifolia, Pinus densiflora, and Pinus parviflora (ungrafted) in my local area (or even online in some instances).
Most often, I end up referring potential purchasers to a commercial online source rather than trying to come up with a price that might seem insane to them . . . especially when you have to add on the currently out of control costs of shipping.
For me, it would be so much easier to trade. I have something that you want and you have something that I want. We both have to absorb equal costs for shipping so, in the end, everyone is happy. Also, please donāt assume that just because I have listed a species I wouldnāt want to gain another for my collection. I may have an over abundance of what you want and only have one or two of the species you are assuming I already have enough of.
Having said all that, Iām still willing to sell but, please save me the embarrassment of offending you and just tell me what you are willing to pay.
I hope I came off more as a conflicted person than an asshole.
Rick

Hello, I am interested in trade. I have Firethorn seeds, Crape myrtle Several different types, Bloodgood JM, sawtooth oak and Cuttings if you want to try. I am interested in any Japanese Maple seeds you have. Later this spring I will have a lot of Japanese Maple Bloodgood seedlings to trade too. Here's an updated seed list of mine, open to any offers if anyone sees anything they like. I've listed the cultivar the seeds were collected from when applicable, but as most people on here already know that doesn't guarantee you will end up with a plant similiar to the cultivar listed. A lot of these also aren't suitable for bonsai, but I've decided to still list them anyway.

They are good, only a few inches high but they are putting on a lot of root growth atm. I'm looking for Drake, seiju, cedar elms. Im potentially interested in winged elms. Are your Chinese elms the common Chinese? I can shoot you some pics of my live oak seedlings if I figure out how to get DM to cooperate. How are your live oaks doing?
