Actually, no. Cats are one thing we DON'T see. Any stray cat gets eaten by the coyotes. It is not a cat-friendly environment. We even have trouble with coyotes jumping into peoples' back yards and eating their dogs. My neighbors across the street had their dog eaten and they had a 6' fence. They came home to bits and pieces scattered all over their yard

You're doing great with this. The first styling is spot on and the image will only get better with time. Say 'Hi' to the bear for me.

Damn, I am dieing to get in there and fine wire the whole thing out. It's still growing strongly I should probably wait till it's into summer slowdown eh?
If it was only wiggling of twigs I would start now but there is still an adjustment I want to make that will require heavy wire and some force. Nothing crazy but that may not be a great idea right now? I'll have to start by removing everything (I mean wires and guy wires, no pruning required) then get the large wire on. Can't just start the fine wires now first, they'll be in the way of the big one and I will wind up with a half effective tangle again. Better to wait a little while?

Forecast here if that makes a difference. Been like this for the last three weeks and no sign of change, forest is getting dry, scary.

If it's growing, the bark will be loose. You'll run a high risk of damaging it with the kind of work you're talking about. Patience!

So all wires came off, starting to replace. Pretty disorganized appearance now I'm looking forward to seeing what a rewiring can bring out.
I did get that adjustment I wanted done. I nearly made some kerf cuts into the crotch before bending inwards, could have avoided this split that way. But I didn't, maybe should have but I guess a small tear along the grain like this shouldn't be a big deal for the tree.

Here's something that I thought interesting. Was poking around the old chop site a couple weeks ago. Thought I should have a look to see where it had died back to, think about fixing up that area.
It is still green and callousing all the way around the cut site. I really would have expected the pathways that don't lead to the leader to have died back down the trunk a ways by now. You know junipers the way live veins work etc. Always thought I'd wind up with Shari there and the tree would decide location and size for me..

A bit of progress, work stop, photo check. I'm a but surprised at how much it doesn't look good in a photo yet. Seemed to be shaping up pretty good in person here. I plan on putting more time and wire into it so we will see what happens.

Managed to get into it a bit more this evening, feeling happier about the image. Not gonna stop here just yet, will fiddle some more, more skinny wire. Definition and negative space maybe, might see ya again next week. I wonder if I can get the back side looking much better.

Deadwood jinns....I still like the big one on the right and the long trailer down the left. Really thinking of reducing the big one sticking up back left though.. Someday.

Looking good. When it has enough foliage to create better-defined pads, it will be much better. It needs in and out movement of the silhouette and larger negative spaces. How do you feel about wiring the end of that left branch out laterally to move it away from the jin and create more of a pad?

I feel interested enough to to look into it. That bit of tree jumps out at me too, descending angle looks a little odd down there. Partly it may be because that area has way more depth than appears in that pic. A lot of what we see there is towards the back fanning out, eye picks it up differently in person. Some of it may be that I missed the front by a hair in that last pic, never ceases to amaze how much a tiny camera angle/rotation changes things. Lower stuff looks a bit more appropriately placed from this angle I think?And maybe it should be pulled out and together a bit, I'll probably try adjusting a touch there. Lowest bits should probably be shortened too eventually? Not sure about pads, don't even know if I like them. I should try someday, for now I think fanned out is best for development anyways. I will still keep wiring and tweaking a bit more, not sure why but I'm going to try to tune it up a bit more. It's down to 20 & 22 gauge wire now. Then it's look and fiddle, take a photo look and fiddle some more.. Good times.
The tree hasn't seen a lick of maintenance pruning yet ever. Lots of elimination pruning to get here but what I've kept I've kept to the tips so far. No pruning back for ramification. That's coming next, that and potting, I'm curious how it will respond and develop.

Progress to date made of pics from the thread.
This is about the most completed styling I've achieved with any of my collected trees so far, that wind blown juniper has also reached a similar state I guess. Not that this is all there yet, not in a pot for one thing and needs both more work and more development but still I feel like it's a bit of a landmark as far as finally nearing a goal. Closest thing to fully styled that I've got yet is what I mean to say. Next steps, repot and deal with the chop site.
