Well, now, a much more distinct character to the leaves. Leo should be able to ID this without flowers!

How many kinds of Bumblebee exist? Some of mine are almost too big to fly, are they just old and fat?
NO. Many years ago I heard it said a scientist would say these big furry Bumble Bees were aerodynamically not able to fly. But God made them so they can and do fly. Particular Bumbles are big fat and furry but others small slimmer, faster and have bad attitudes. I loved the big ones when a small child and amazed my mom as I'd pet them and they let me for awhile then would fly away. Now because of bugicides I hardly ever see the big ones anymore and miss them.

Some pictures of the prunus I mentioned. Pretty Similar, no?

Well done, @Woocash! It sure looks eerily similar.

To double check, I’ll call my friend later today to confirm there’s a plum in the area and see if he knows what type it is. If it’s there, he likely planted it. Mike’s had a hand in planting every tree on that property. He even helped with the six Autumn Blaze maples I planted last fall by the pump house we built a year and a half ago. Not bad for a 77 year old.

Future new step, get it growing good. Also, to find out if it will ever make a decent bonsai. Any thoughts?

Whew, nicely done everybody! ...and also on that cool discussion about bees.

cheers
DSD sends thank you!

Ok, final information. Mike says there are two plum nearby the dig site. One is an Italian Plum used for prune s mostly. It’s closest. The other is nearby too and is a fresh eating round plum. I’ll check these out my next visit.

Coincidently I’m working at the Pacific Bonsai Museum today cleaning up this morning and worked on this tree.
