I have a large caliber seiju elm. It has been allowed to grow to increase the trunk size. I'd like to start shaping the tree but it will take a very hard pruning to do so. Can I do it now? I am in central Georgia. Thanks

Welcome to the site!

How are the roots? Did you repot this year? A little late in the year to do work like this, but given that it is an elm and you are in Georgia, if the roots are good you can probably pull it off.

If you want to be safe... wait for spring.

I did not repot this year. It is still in a 2 galloon nursery container. It has been growing in it for a couple of years.

Thanks! I think I will wait. After looking at it some more this morning I really want to see what is under the surface and may end up tilting it one way or the other.
