Heck, coast live oak can be collected like cuttings.

You're right. I've done that. Small cuttings for propagation are another story. The bigger trunks on collected trees have a lot more stored energy to push roots.

So then, theoretically, for my scrub/Gamble's oak hardwood cuttings might actually have a better chance.

Might have to go for a hike soon and find out.
