In 2006 I collected this Taxus from a hedge (along with 5 others, 2 shown here and here). I planted the tree in a free-draining mix and let it recover and grow for 3 years. I re-potted it into a smaller cut-down nursery pot in spring of 2009 and removed the clay soil with a mild water jet . (2 following pics in 2010)

In 2010 I cut off the left branches that would later become deadwood.

First styling of branches and initial carving of deadwood in 2012.

It had good growth in 2013 so i decided to perform a July re-pot. Picture taken 8-29-13

A virtual of possible adjustments. Shorten the tree and jin a branch that is too heavy.

I think that's a very cool tree, but also a bit creepy. It reminds me of a battle surfing attack crab from a nightmare sometime in my past.

Maybe it could be called "Wolverine".

Really nice work. I can picture it in a blood red pot with claw type feet, serious I would do that.

I'll be facing the similar task with one I dug several years ago. It also has long straight upright branches/trunks that I am bringing foliage back down toward the base on.
When I look at yours, I think you have done a good job keeping the foliage healthy and close to the base, but what commands my attention in a distracting way is the deadwood on the left. I think I would need to reduce that by about half the height so the viewer could concentrate on the live areas.

So, that and $3.00 could get you a cup of coffee, and it would be worth $3.02, not accounting for inflation.

More possibilities with shorter deadwood on left:

I like number 3. I like the Jin coming out of the top with the more compacted foliage. Reducing the deadwood on the left is much less distracting. Nice job.
Best,
