I don't consider it foliage feeding, but when I apply liquid fertilizer it goes through the canopy into the soil. I also have fertilizer on the soil surface.

Ok thanks..one other question..i had a pot get knocked over and broke. When i went to put it in another pot i noticed somethin in the root that looked like wet cat hair..should i be concerned

You inspired me to work on a bigger one I have had lying around... About a 3 gallon

OK, got to work on it a bot more over the course of the day! Pretty much done with the first styling now. The intent was to do more of a semi-cascade, but I flat out hated that little branch dangling down, so I got rid of it and made a small jin with the remainder... something about making another Pro-nana cascade just sort of turned my stomach and the branch was too thin... AND it did make the decision even easier when I cracked the branch while trying to add a little wiggle to it! I could have wrapped it and it woulda lived I am sure but I like the tree much better without it... In a couple years it will get a regular old rectangle I am sure, but this is a decent start!

hey folks, here is a pair of older procumbens. Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I thought I would put 'em up. The first one is approx. 35 yo. Toyed with it awhile and finally put it in the ground for 15-18 years. I took it up maybe 6 years ago, got it into a bonsai pot this past spring. The first pic was in early spring, the second, today. I think it likes it's new home!. I'll leave it alone for a little while longer and give it a trim maybe in early august. It stands 17 inches tall, 22 wide, with a 2 inch trunk just above the rootage. The second one is about22-25 yo., entirely container grown. 8 inches tall, 12 wide, with a 1 inch trunk thickness. I hope you like them, and as always....thanks for allowing me to post.....blessings...........SKDSCN1586.JPG DSCN1807.JPG DSCN1804.JPG

For those of us that have procumbens (nana) junipers, why don't we all share some pics? I've seen a bunch in the forums, but I thought it would be helpful to have a thread to share info and pics with each other.

I recently picked up a couple Green Mound junipers. I thought they were just a renamed procumbens nana, but the foliage looks a lot bluer.

Then I found some nanas for $5 each. Went back to get a couple more and they were marked down 50%. So now I have 11 one gallon nanas sitting around.

Tonight I did an initial styling and repotting on one of the one gallon nanas. I'm still learning a lot about styling and wiring, but I think it came out ok. Better than in the picture.
You got some good ones.

And some deadwood! Some say all bonsai "deserve" a deadwood feature, that is especially true of Juniper IMO! Chunky little monkey ya got there Mike!

Junipers especially and Conifers, in general should have some dead wood. Junipers have an almost obligatory need for dead wood. I have asked the question before, have you ever seen a good Juniper bonsai that does not have some dead wood?

Please don't be offended by me taking some liberties. I like it a lot but it's a little heavy on the right side in my opinion.

could you describe or take a new pic of the one in the middle in the long pot?
the last pic there is a bit closer one - it is just several small junipers that were wired up and down to make a group/forest scene.

I will take a few more shots for you tomorrow and post em up - that item is at my studio not home ;)

Makes me think of ways to start counting the ways and number of times I can (how do I say this)bridge a raft into a pot?
Probably a lot of times depending on how big and keeping it alive when it winters.

My first one is still growing but it's not even snipped off the existing vine shaped tree yet.
The problem with them are if you break or cut a tip the whole branch dies.

I wish I could zoom in on this site.

Not offended at all Vin, thanks for taking the time for the pic and comments. It's a good thing to hear different perspectives, that's part of the reason I post a tree from time to time. I've been going back and forth from pic to pic and I think I agree with you. The only issue I might have would be that the branch bottoms are too even. Maybe let the left branch go a little further down to break up that line. What do you think?

I absolutely agree. I just did a quick virt with Paint. With just a little wiring and exposing some of the branches the tree would be awesome. BVF could really offer some insight on this one. It really is extremely nice!

Three pics of the same tree right? Last pic is the "before", first pic is the after? What did that take about 6 months?
