Hi everyone! Technically my first post but long time lurker. My largest willow cutting that I got on a lark appears to have gotten a potential fungal infection from our latest downpour (or I assume that’s what the orange dots are). I know that the top evidently has dieback and I need to chop that off but I’m trying to figure out if I should just get rid of the whole thing now if the thing has rust.
Any help appreciated!

I'd toss it.

Thank you for replying! I isolated this one from my maple and wisteria like yesterday because I had a feeling and it’s a good thing I did because they’re fine but it’s not 😅
And thanks! I was in the Facebook groups for beginners but man that place is brutal. I like it here lol

I like it here

I like to think we have a good understanding of beginning, changing your mind to become actually good at actual bonsai, but also allowing you to "begin" forever if that's what makes you happy.

Some people appreciate overcoming "rust" problems.
Some people get more satisfaction out of the things it may ruin.

If it was farther along and not a willow, it may be worth keeping.
