Pohutukawa/Metrosideros how to pick the new leader

today chopped the trunk of my Metrosideros but don't know which branch should i pick as my new leader ?

Should it be on the front or the back of the tree ?

trunk at the base 3cm ~ 1.2 inch i want the "finished" tree to be aprox 20cm high, the chop is at ~ 10 cm is it too high?

Try to expose some of the base/root area/nebari...it sometimes help you determine the best front.
