I just adopted an Ohia Lehua tree from a local nursery. They did a native Hawaiian plant giveaway in an effort to repopulate these trees after a vicious run of ROD for the last couple of years. I've always admired and respected the workings of bonsai from afar but I've decided to get into it.
I have been doing research but still don't know enough terminology to find the answer I'm looking for so I'm reaching out to the veterans of the bonsai trade.
The tree I've adopted has 4 branches emerging. I'd like to cut 3 of the smaller branches to propagate the cuttings (backup lol) while having the biggest of the 4 as my bonsai. Right now the little girl doesn't have any offshoots from the branch Im looking to make the main trunk out of so I'm afraid to cut anything else off.
I apologize if my vocabulary isn't correct but I'm a learn-as-you-go type of person and I will learn, promise!
Any advice, comments, or criticism is much appreciated.
