I’ve seen where some people suggest removing pine cones. I heavily pruned this Austrian pine last fall. It’s producing some vigorous growth in addition yo numerous pine cones. Since I hope to repot it next spring I don’t want it wasting resources on pine cones. However, I’m not sure if keeping them provides some benefits. I learned that keeping some older needles helps keep proper hormones in the tree and thus have been thinking the pine cones could also serve a similar purpose. I remove all cones, from the little that I have read and researched any fruit or seed production creates a strain on the tree.
