Pigletts Progress

@Dav4 Well, it really hasn't happened yet, so who knows? Lugging these around makes you ponder it though LOL... We will most likely move in 5 or so years, we bought a piece of land in Colorado recently, so there will be some deciding to do. I'm not changing from D trees, I'm building a display house that will give me the humidity that is lacking there. I will probably house the trees in it year round. But space will be the tradeoff, so some of the larger things.... ? I do adore the mid size trees so it's not so hard to think about gravitating that way. Although I like shohin, I just can't get into those as much as I'd like to...
Piglet isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but my big ass hornbeam might if I could find 3 nice medium sized ones to make a forest group with.
I have no doubt you have all your ducks in a row as to going about creating such. That could be quite nice to not move them in and out but just staying in one place.

Yes, I do my OCD has it all squared away already.... Funny thing is after posting about not going for big trees anymore, and I just acquired a new beastie.o_O

Let's see! (If you haven't already posted it).

Really liking that trunk and the branches are coming along nicely. Good work!

Love the piglett! Hope to see this one showing it's new toes this coming spring...
It might take another year before they are ready to expose. But I'm putting it back into the namako next spring, so I'll check and see if they took enough.

Really nice work Judy! Are you shooting ultimately for a more rounded canopy or more pointed?

For sure. I think that the left side will always be lower, but it'll be a basic open crown tree. Someday. :p
A good cutback on that one branch would soften the crown immensely. And now is the time to do it! Seal the cut.

I've been eyeing that one, there is a branch to cut back to... I do most of my major cuts on this tree at this time of year, much less ugly swelling occurs.

There's a branch on the left that drives me crazy, and it popped some buds back towards the trunk for next year, yay. Want to make sure they open before I cut that one back though just to be safe as that's an important branch.

I hope you plan to make it less triangular/conical, the whole “maple made to look like a pine tree” thing. I would love to see a nice wide, rounded canopy on this beaut!
