Piñon pine #2

Did you already buy this shell from Willow Bonsai ? Frankly for me the stone on your virtual is too large and the shape (perfectly round) and textures isn't very natural looking for me.
I prefer, by far, the stones/slabs/shells of Jan Culek or Josef Rauscher because they are much more "wild" & "natural looking".

If you like those stones, you can easily contact them by mail or on their facebook page and order a custom made stone, if they accept to ship to your place (?). They may also advise you on what would be the best for your tree, before starting anything concrete.
It's Just my frank opinion and i'm sure you prefer frank answers 😅

Thanks Clem! No I haven’t bought the pot yet and am Also unsure of its believability as a wild looking pot. My scale may be off some in my virtual but I’m seeing what you’re seeing in regards to its size. I may still go with a Traditional cloud footed pot, or may construct a natural slab similar to the ones I’ve been building out lately.

Thanks for your honesty!

Like the idea of echoing the wild in the pot…. So maybe a tiered slab design?

The issue is always what’s the right wild for the tree?

Potting in a round pot, while really cool pot and inexpensive, might beg a bit more domestic design…

But only my thoughts.

Cheers

Definitely following. This species ranks very high on my list. Very interesting what you've done with it so far.

My .02, for what that's worth, is that looks awesome. I would go for it. Very cool tree. I really like what you've done with it.
Thanks Dan. I’ll take your .02 I’d even take your .01. I reached out directly to Josef and he indeed ships to the states. I’m pulling the trigger for sure.

@clem this stone is available from Josef Rauscher.
Thinking of pulling the trigger

very good choice, much more natural and wild looking stone than the previous one, i guess you agree with me ?

IMO you could also plant small ferns or small shrubs on the ground to add a decorative/landscape aspect all on its own, and to further decorate the base of the composition .. i think.

maybe bury a stone on the right side of the root ball to counterbalance the weight of the tree ?
Exactly what I was thinking. Something super dense just to keep it up right. Should be enough depth in the pot.

Josef Rauscher could perhaps also stabilize the shell better by sticking discreet wedges underneath, to increase stability in the event of a gust of wind or otherwise... surely he has all the equipment to do that?
I think it would be interesting to show him your virtual to get his opinion on the stability and the best way to remedy it because he makes a lot of shell.. 🤔

My Josef Rauscher pot from Bonsai Kreativ showed up today. Wowza. Quality is amazing and far better in person and it already looked good in photos. I also bought a small accent pot. Pretty dam excited.
