Incredible stuff in this thread, thank you very much for sharing your methods.
That looks great! And full! I am going to build one for my jm mutants I have that I grew from seed last season. To hope they make it through the winter so I can graft. I used the npk fertilizers and bio stimulants that you have been suggesting. They grew great! Some came close to three feet tall! I figured that helped prepare them better for a full tree life. Especially since my favorite one has a pretty weak root system. The winter storage of over 400 Siberian Elms and a few Black Pine!!!
Experiance has showed me over the years to keep the cold frome open most of the cold season untill the nights are below 28f or so.I let them take first few frosts at about 26 f and then I just piled all 400 or so in their grodan cubes.
Lid is off cold frame and enduring rain and all untill it gets VERY cold, then the lid gets closed only at night and depending on severity of cold the lid is cracked during day or opened to let the light in….shade of course since on northern side of house.
Otherwise I will get mold on these and that sucks.
Very effective as the bottomless box is about 18” into ground next to warmth of home……..the pile of Siberian Elm is so funny.

All I know is when you start the Siberian elms in the tent with co2 fertiliazation they will have a pronounced and noticeable vigor…..high brix and more durable ,compact growth.Have you put them inside and dont let them go dormant? the elms for example, how they react
Yes and have done so with different evergreens.I tend to have so much fun experimenting that I sometimes lose track of what might actually pay for my hobby expenses…Trying to stay prioritized latelyHave you consider do the same hydroponic method with plants like Taxodiums, Metasequoya, Cupressus, etc..
You have inspired me to try 1" cubes this year for JM seed starting. Do you know an affordable nutrient solution to mix in when watering? I already have liquid kelp on hand to supplement with. Really just looking to avoid using peat/perlite based mixes as I lose a lot of the smaller seedlings to damping off.Impressed with the 1.5” stonewool mini-cubes for seedlings.
I find salts to be cheapest……NPK is ok priced….I buy bulk from kalix….their parent company.Their all in one is of very high quality….you may not like the price……needs ph’d with up/down in solution. You have inspired me to try 1" cubes this year for JM seed starting. Thanks I purchased an 8oz bag from Amazon, they are a little cheaper there than on the website. It instructs 1 tsp per gallon of water, 48 tsp in the bag so good for 48 gallons of nutrient? Should be enough until JM seedlings outgrow their 1inch cube.I find salts to be cheapest……NPK is ok priced….I buy bulk from kalix….their parent company.Their all in one is of very high quality….you may not like the price……needs ph’d with up/down in solution.
DO NOT BUY BULK FROM NPK BRAND THOUGH……..go to kalix

Pm ( private message) is better……..I work 6 days a week generally all day…..but can check in the evening and gove helpJust spent the morning reading these awesome posts from start to now. First of all, thanks so much for sharing these details and the great photo's along with it. Over here in Israel getting starter material is nigh on impossible and I have been on the edge of just doing it myself. Today you convinced me that it's possible and will start turning things up a level and growing them with this ebb and flow method. I have so many questions so not sure if I should throw them in here as I don't want to side track all this great information but it will be related mainly to what you've been doing here. Would that be OK?
