I have not thought of that... not sure I can picture the image. Do you have any examples of large pines like that on a slab?

No, I do not, sorry, but in your words "I have not thought of that." Regardless; you are probably going to have to spend some big money to get a pot made for this tree, a slab could have provided a solution for you provided it was appropriate.

32x23x9 inches, that is one large pot. Not many bonsai pot makers in the USA have personal kilns large enough to fire the pot. Would likely have to find a potter who belongs to a co-op where a group uses a large wood fired community kiln. It can be done, there are a number of these kilns near most cities where you have ceramics artists making ''stuff'' that is not bonsai related. Unglazed clay picks up an interesting finish in a wood fired kiln.
I'd list potters that do slab build larger pots, but I'm afraid I would skip one of the better ones, there are at least half a dozen in the USA.

Michael doesn't have anything in that size at Bonsai West? There is the "nice" pot-house, and the one right beside that along the fence has a ton of stuff.
I was there when Michael returned from the sale, and I'll tell ya', some pretty damn impressive containers!! Nice trees as well!
