Ok I admit, my juniper too does pot :)

Ok, so it seems that 'pretty cute' isn't the standard here (@Smoke ) and my little buddy even got me the suggestion to read about bonsai's rules (@jeanluc83 ).
I answered that I didn't think my guy was breaking any of those so let's see... o_O

DSC04085.JPG

The trunk is gently leaning toward the viewer, before going back because you know, F... you! After a while.
No branch are poking any eyes, neither roots btw...

DSC04087.JPG

It doesn't seem to have reverse taper whatsoever, except the one I create myself with the camera because, you know, the trunk is gently leaning toward the viewer.
The waves on the branches seem pretty natural to me, except this one

DSC04090.JPG

But what jin and shari are made for if I may ask?... :)

So 'a stick in a pot'? (@ColinFraser )
That must be my lucky stick for a tree that was here only to show it's pot

OK, How about some of the other rules.

How about the trunk should be one sixth the size of the height or about one inch per six inches of height (2.5 cm per 15 cm of height)

How about an apex. This tree has possibly two and neither is a good one.

How about good back branches for depth.

How about wiring properly and with the correct size wire and utilizing the wire to do something.

How about artistry, that's a good rule.

How about parallel branches. The bottom right branch and the bottom left branch are parallel. One points up and one point down within a few inches (cm's) of each other.

How about the direction of the trunk leaving with movement to the left while the top most branch ( presumable apex) points to the right.

How about making a scalene triangle with the three outermost points on the tree? You can't because there are four! A great example of a square tree......

How will you address each of these rules?

My proposition wasn't that cheap big store stock can make nice bonsai right away!
Due to the subject of the conversation (beginners shouldn't buy home depot products basically)

Right here you fail on the reading comprehension portion of the assessment and show me you were just being argumentative as this was NOT the purpose of the thread. It was to say that you could spend the same money on one of those Amur maples as you do on a HD run and wind up time and money ahead and with a better tree. Excuse me for wanting to help...

Thanks but actually I don't think my tree breaks any of the basic bonsai rules, it's itch the eyes otherwise

Well on this I rest my case. You are not into bonsai, rather you are into potted plants. There is nothing wrong with this mind you I love container gardening. I love all plants. However in this day and age of self definition, some things have already been defined and bonsai is one of those things.

I'm a member of a lot of forums and this continues to be the only one where "experienced masters" ridicule folks just getting a foot hold. @Smoke you might be great at making little trees appear to be big trees but you are one miserable mother fucker. If you have nothing intelligent or useful to say to a beginner, maybe you should ignore their posts. Or is bullying other nerds the only thing that can still give you an erection?
I hope that in my 60's I'm as good at bonsai as you are, and i hope to be 10 times the man

I see you too have no idea about this art. If you wish to post pictures of trees in training I would say nothing in your post. If you post pictures of your trees and call them bonsai, then they pretty damn sure better look like it or I'm gonna say something. Especially if you try to compare your crappy 4.99 dollar juniper to the tree Judy has for sale.

Sorry its your move, make it a good one or its just sour grapes and I'm really getting tired of that. Your next reply decides whether you go on ignore or not so babble away, just know once your on ignore you can poke the bear all you want but just know at that point your just making an ass of yourself like about 26 others I have on ignore. Eventually I'll get this thing weeded down to the five or six actually doing bonsai here.

Cheerrio.....

From a post dated Jan 1:

BTW, be content in the fact that tomorrow morning I will never soapbox again, I'm just taking advantage of being an ass for these last few hours.

yet....starting tomorrow this place will be that much more boring.....:(

Well, you lasted until April. Better than I expected. Of course, since I'm one of the chosen ones on ignore, you won't see this but I can live with that!

Sheesh, yet another person who has no concept of reading comprehension. I believe the postmodern age has truly turned the brains of younger people to fert cakes...

Had you actually been paying attention, what you would have seen is a person with one year of experience making many belligerent and grandiose claims, unsolicited I might add... He claimed for one thing that one of his mugos, upon initial styling, was a good as the person who is the pretty much the father of mugo usage could do. Then he used the juni from this thread as an example of the fine stock one could get from HD and claimed that it did not break any of the rules of bonsai. Well there's ignorance and then there is belligerence... Showing great skill, he fit himself into both categories and guess what? He pushed his way into that thread and went totally off topic.

You choose to go after one of the last experts that posts on here. Yea they come around but numb nutted fools end up running them off. So do us all a favor and put a sock in it. You can use the silent time learning to read for context.

This forum is just a bunch of elitist's bitchery, I'm out. i'll miss the few people who contributed to my learning. I'll stick to books, friends, and other websites from here. Peace

I love it; not long ago everyone felt I was an ass for pointing out
much the same problem. :rolleyes::D:rolleyes:

Stay, or leave, the forum will go on just fine either way. Keep in mind...every forum has its flaws, but this is the most active bonsai forum I'm aware of. There are a few on facebook that are reasonably active, but they have their own issues. You take the good with the bad, or take off.

Suggestion, liberal use of the ignore function can make the place much more pleasant.

I hear facebook is "the" place to run too when the heat in the kitchen becomes unbearable.....Hopefully when you come back...and they do comeback...usually with a new username but the same crappy attitude, you'll have some branches on your trees.

And for the coup de grâce ( that's for Alain) I think the only one doing bitching was you!

@everyone: Wow! :)
One can't go for a hockey game by there! :p

@Smoke:
You realized the tree today is 6 months old and on the picture you just quoted was something like half an hour old right?
In bonsai time I mean (i.e. since it has been potted by me)
:)

Sorry if I did miss the reading of your post but I really don't think the trees you were saying the newbies (why not newcomers btw?) should buy instead of the HD stock are at the same price :)

For the definition of bonsai I am really sorry but I will disagree with you once more I think.
Bonsai means a tree, alive, in a pot, no?
Which is exactly what my tree is.
After I guess there is diverse degrees of masterpiece, which my tree didn't even pretend it will compete for.

@Smoke again. Euh...I never compared my tree to Judy B's trees or anyone else trees...
I just said (making a sort of summary of what I wanted to say in both this post and the one from yesterday) that sure the trees (the maples) for sale in the post of yesterday are awesome but they are certainly expensive (last time I check Judy B didn't propose a price) and for a beginner who has a very high risk to kill his tree lot of stock from home depot (or whatnot) could give you a lot of fun, make you learn a lot, for a much lesser price and look relatively quickly like a bonsai, term I put in bracket as I knew my tree (we agree it's a tree right?) was not to compare to any show quality bonsai or anything (and certainly not to the trees of anyone here).

@GGB again: I specifically said I'll never compare my mugo to the work of Vance Wood but that the overall result was looking as he says and shows in all his post and video it should look after the 1 st work. I guess it might be right because it's more or less what he said in comment when I posted the 'before'/'after' pictures in the mugo train.

I very clearly said "stick-ON-a-pot" ;)

I am totally sure you did! :)

How is the dirt staying on?

I carved the pot to make a depression :)

@every one:
Thanks a lot for your participation!
I didn't mean to offend anyone, I was just chitchatting on a forum, at least I though :)

I hope you all know what that "F....you"means....

Alain hasn't been rude for a second....
And he sure aint dumb.
He knows what he has....

C'mon....he even explains of the "bonsai" is a "tree in pot", which is what this is....
And not a "real bonsai".

And he has enough sense to understand what Smoke wrote about the other rules.

Can we help a Frenchie our without being Assholes?

I guess looking stupid is like beauty.
In the eye of the beholder!
