Ok, I admit, I do pot... :)

ven if you know that 5 genus of coniferous are in fact deciduous

Hmm can I get all five? Taxodium, larix, metasequoia, uh..... glyptostrobus..... what else? I could cheat and look it up, but I'll play fair. What did I miss?

I don't know, I wikipedied :D

OK so I hear you saying that in your OPINION my special rock may not contain diamonds, baby dinosaurs, and is probably not from outer space. But you cannot really be certain can you? I mean what do we really know with certainty. Lol. Thanks for the help

What I am hearing from the sidelines?
This one guy had all sorts of fantasies/suppositions about his rock
BUT to prove him wrong the other guy showed him his stones and
another guy had difficulties with the iconoclast.

It is possible that I will awaken from a nap even more good looking/20 something/fabulously healthy
but is not likely and or probable. And that is more than opinion.
I could NOT become more good looking than I already am.

Why not?! This morning I woke up with whiter teeth, fresher breath, a six pack stomach and my voice mail loaded with messages from female pop divas requesting a little of my time. And what about that poor neglected sandstone pot at the beginning of this thread? It has red oxidation, obviously came from Mars. And did Alain start this thread to truly discuss his sandstone pot? Or was it to drive it more and more into the realm of the absurd?

Well I started this thread to show the pot, which wasn't quite finished yet as the anchorage systems for the drainage mesh and for the tree itself were missing (now they are done, more pictures pending I guess).
But I have nothing against the realm of absurd :)

Alain, yes, please return to the sandstone with an update.

You know from the title I thought maybe someone was going to confess to being high on here.

I'll tonight normally. I drilled the pot and glued the wires with epoxy yesterday night so I guess everything will be dry when I'll be back from work this evening.

I won't say no more without the assistance of my lawyer.

I don't think there are five genera of deciduous conifers. If you saw something that said 5 they were probably including ginkgo, which is a gymnosperm, but not a conifer.

And I thought the thread was hilarious, sorry if I took attention away from the pot. ;)

"but five genera (Larix, Pseudolarix, Glyptostrobus, Metasequoia and Taxodium) are deciduous,"

Anyway the point was: your rock is a geode, and not even a nice one :P

Pseudo larix that was tricky. I did get larch and the very obscure glyptostrobus.

And you aren't?
Thought that was one of the requisites for dealing with the drama.
And the silly, ". . . I am new to bonsai and just bought me an indoor
juniper, fukien tea, [insert whatever species] now what?"
my bad . . . .

You did more than well with 4 on 5 actually, chapeau bas Messieurs,...

To all the other ones and Tx included:

I kinda of lost track of the delirium but I do remember I promised you guys new pictures of my pot.

Sorry, it's still not dry, nothing more to show.
As soon as it's done you'll be the first to know (well, after my sainted wife, who doesn't even really like bonsai in fact...)

But as I promised some pictures and speaking of geode here is one I plan to use at one point, if I don't sale it first ;)

It's pure silica (both crystallized and in the glass form) and the funny thing about this geode is that it is inside - out :)
The crystals are at the exterior of the geode (in fact they are inside but inside the much bigger geode from where this rock came, when it crystallized, because more recently it came from the yard that was abandoned last year in front of our house).

I tried to work on it like I did with the sandstone, forget it, took me more or less 30 minutes to drill-press that hope of a drainage hole.
So I decided that I'll use them to put my trees on instead of in, like on the little piece there which already stand alone ;)

Very cool rocks and I'm learning some geology on this thread too. However... The exterior crystallization on the geode in the 2nd photo looks like sugar coating. I have the sudden urge to eat a donut. I think a root over donut bonsai would be revolutionary. I've never seen it done. It would have to be a very stale donut. The fact that you drilled for a half hour+ indicates that it's quite stale. I think you have a great idea and should go for it.

I think you have a great idea and should go for it.

Thanks a lot for your answer however regarding the last part quoted above: of which idea are we speaking about? ;)

If it's the idea of using the hollow part as a pot I think I could forget it.
Unless I buy some diamond burrs, saws and drill bits this piece of shit is unbreakable o_O

But if you are speaking of the 'roots over donuts' idea I am totally going for it :)

The big piece is actually breakable in a least 2 or 3 pieces of decent sizes because the rock can't be saw but it can be broken following the natural 'cracks'.

For the moment the only tree I am thinking about for one of these pieces is my little walmart retusa on top of the little rock of picture 5.
The pot I was trying to do was for this ficus in this piece of rock actually.
I saw it fitting in the inside geode, now I have to make it fit on the outside geode, something to think about this winter ;)
