That trick may (*but I doubt it) work to invigorate a tree...
But to what ends?

Not the best Bonsai ends...
And especially root tip ends!

Sphagnum doesn't really come out safely..
And in my experience*....
It blacks up and kills roots over winter.

Of course, climate matters, but the water you mist introduce daily to keep he sphagnum wet...makes a microclimate quite the same anywhere.

I have not tried it but it should work.

Would you guys recommend just going to a bonsai soil with the normal Mugo summer repot rules?

Id leave it in there and water the dry out of it.
