A bit quirky...but for those who like The Lord Of The Rings...a hobbit planter

I may take you up on your offer come Spring and I am back from Honduras. Soooo you think a conifer would be more appropriate than a deciduous tree then? How about a weeping form of conifer? (Not really in the movie though I guess)

Handle as in...to heavy to move around when complete. But I could always stand to have a bonsai knowledgable person at a phone call away for if I get stuck in the process.

Food for thought... It does not have to be huge and 7 trees even a foot tall or less will cast a full dark look... Not being huge it will be easily moved but honest those tree types should just plain winter well there as well as here... A 6 inch statue of Gandalf arms extended Sceptre to the sky cast resin(very reasonable)... Tall trees raised a bit in the back... Creative juices flowing... Lots of rocks... ;)

Also... If the thought of a slab is a little much for you there is NOTHING improper about using a shallow pot... My first thought would be to call Charles Iker and ask him to fire one 1/2 inch deep like the one he did for my Wife only in a silver grey finish... hers is oval but round would work well giving you more space to build the back up... overall with dense trees and rocks that would be a pretty darn cool display...

Cool indeed :) Going back to earlier posts though I have a whole different "mindset" then you and that is perfectly fine. I am pretty certain I will work up my thoughts early Summer and do a "show and tell". Reason is if you want something(in my mind) that will draw in your Husband in a "manly" way I can do that and still have a neat looking albeit "odd" Penjing forest and follow a fantasy theme that holds his interest. There are a lot of "soft" sides to the whole Hobbit fantasy and my display will show none of that. I can and most certainly will help any way I can with your thoughts and design but I will offer the "other side of the fence" display just because I can and think it is a "fun" project ;)

There used to be a poster @ bonsaiTalk named Emperor Fish who did this sort of thing YEARS ago. His plantings were extremely detailed. Any veterans remember bT, Emperor Fish, and his plantings?
