What a luxury to have time to prepare for spring. In Houston i was pulling leaves off my maples in January and repotting by early February. Crazy.

Today I made 40 gallons of soil then mixed and bagged about 10 gallons of fertilizer.

I have my starter mix and seeds and bare root seedlings are on the way.

It is great……the cold weather season in January and february are so peaceful around the zone 6 & 7.

And that wonderful time to appreciate the warm weather arriving……Spring.

Leading up to it January and February are just so mesmerizingly peaceful though.

If you buy his products…..just realize the parent company is kalix for much cheaper bulk supplies.
Npk brand is crazy expensive……but sometimes good if you need a little 2 oz package or something.

The only downside is that you won't have the crazy long growing season for trees in development, which I guess is good as well once you are refining your trees.

My ficus are about 2 weeks into pushing new growth, pomegranates is already leaf out, and my Seiju elm and new gingko seedlings are already showing green on the buds. I will have to figure a way to protect the elm as it is in-ground in the event that we get the freak cold weather we got the last 2 years in February. Everything else will be moved into the garage.

Great point! It is nice to have time to prepare for spring. I’m behind and glad we still here in ga have a good month and a half until spring.

Hydrated a couple of bricks of coco coir and mixed it with perlite for my grow out mix (following @Eric Schrader at Bonsaify). Received my order from Matt Ouwinga and used a few of the tridents to replace some seedlings that didn’t make it on some clumps I started last year.

Feels great to work on trees and not just infrastructure. I started two root over rock Japanese maple plantings, four 9 tree Japanese maple clumps, three 9 tree trident maple clumps, 16 tridents and Japanese maples into 9” tree bands for future rock plantings.
