hi eveyone ok when should i trim my trees i have 3 at the min im not bothered about the look of them at the minute just what will keep them healthy and alive

This is such a vague question...

1. Where are you located? Can you update your profile?
2. What kind of trees do you have?
3. Can you post pictures?

If you want them healty and alive you could also just let them grow (if it's not rootbound).

ok sorry it was a bit vague i thought there was a basic rule to it
i live in england manchester
first picture is a Chinese elm
second picture is a rhododendron bonsai
third picture is a lorapetalum.
i dont know if they are rootbound?

Do you normally keep them indoors ? All three should be outside because they'll simply die with insufficient light. The loropetalum needs dormancy.

It's approaching winter, any leaves will be needed to help them get through winter...

Yeah all 3 are inside I do put them outside when I get some sun but coming to winter there won't be any. The lorapetalum and the elm are semi evergreens and indoor bonsais according to the tags they had.

True and I totally agree I'm new to all this but I fell for it and since I live in a flat i don't have a garden i have a small balcony that's enclosed I'll just need to put them out there as much as possible but winter in England is awful so it may help a little them being inside. So what do I do with trimming them I have trim some of the elms tree to try keep its shape but if it's not going to keep it healthy I'd rather it not keep its shape

They all look OK to me right now. But I wonder:

... but winter in England is awful so it may help a little them being inside.

Do all trees in England need to come indoors during the winter? Where do you put all of those big English Oaks? I thought the Brits had small houses?

Seriously, find a place outdoors to keep them - they will all struggle indoors in the long run.

I wouldn't trim right now. In bonsai, all things have a season. Autumn is the season for helping the tree gather strength for winter dormancy. Fertilize and leave all the growth on. Late winter and early spring is the time for repotting, wiring, and development pruning. Spring is the season for wiring and pruning new growth. Etc...

One of the great pleasures of bonsai is getting tuned to the growth cycle of your plants. For now, focus on learning proper watering and getting them proper light. You can research repotting and find some help so that you can repot your trees and get them into proper soil in the spring.

No, it's a lorapetalum; alive at the moment, but inside. There's been 3 threads started on these three trees in the last couple days.

Ah you're right. At first glance the leaves looked brown and crispy. That doesn't appear to be the case looking again though.

Yeah the lorapetalum isnt dead but thanks for the advice I'll start putting them out side and bring them in at night and I won't trim them

?

Of course, you're free to do what you want, but I wouldn't bring them in ever. UK winters are mild. None of my trees have seen the inside of my house.

I think I'll do both over winter inside at night and outside in the day according to what the info says on them 2 like to be above 15c and one likes being above 10c and since winter where I live it drops well below 0 at night

It was on the tag and I got them from a gorden centre but ok I'll go with
What you tell me thanks is there any thing else I really need to know ?

winter in England is awful

I'd wear shorts and flipflops over there!!!!
Winter here is much worse in my location, and I use my enclosed porch as a cold frame.
Elms and Rhodos should be fine outdoors with a modicum of protection.....
Trees like it outdoors, don't deny them the pleasure!!!!!:D

Sometimes I think that my trees like it better outside and me just leaving them alone. My care almost seems to hamper them. Let them go outside and play ma, they won't get hurt.
