Nice to be here. As with my other hobbies/activities, I have found forums to be an indispensible source of information. I fooled around with Bonsai twenty years ago in Maryland, but now live in a more peaceful climate and would like to try again. Hope to learn much from you veterans, and contribute where I can. Just starting out again, so currently own a finished/trained Ficus that I bought as a finished tree. Not real happy with it, for I would have rather shaped it myself, but it's nice to look at. My own stuff consists of two very young stock Snow Roses, and two Chinese Elm. All still in plastic trays, but I intend to move forward very slowly.

Welcome! First piece of advice, be teachable. Many of the folks on here are bona fide experts and are fortunately for us willing to teach. Enjoy your new life in bonsai!

Well, you certainly picked a great place to live to grow bonsai, not to mention the bonsai professionals and teachers that are in your general area. There are many on here that can guide you down the right path, as well as direct you to bonsai nurseries and where to get hands-on experience.

Good luck and welcome back to bonsai.

Welcome to the forum!
You certainly are near a lot of bonsai action now....

Welcome ghetto cop ! The amount of Bonsai practitioners and Bonsai related articles in your state makes me wonder when will the golden state institute a Bonsai specific tax ;)

Thanks so much for the welcome, and yes, there are quite a few Bonsai nurseries here in the bay area. Makes it extrememly difficult to not spend all of my time visiting them and spending money. I am hoping that Bonsai will teach me some much needed patience.

It's horticulture first then art second. You can't style a dead tree. Welcome.

If you live in the Bay area, the absolute best thing you can do for yourself and your bonsai is to get to know Boon Manakitivipart. www.bonsaiboon.com.

Welcome , My best advice to you is go on the Golden State Bonsai Federation site, there's a ton of info. Anyway welcome back an enjoy. Pete
