Need advice and opinions on my Arakawa

Just found these pictures from May 2013. I didn't take pictures in the fall, but the leaves were red.

Nice tree hard to find any with sizable trunks.

I have been looking for a new pot for this tree. The tree won't need it for a while, but it's nice to dream... The tree is 24" tall and around 3.5" thick at the base. Which pot do you guys like?

Tokoname oval 21.65" wide and 3.5" deep. It comes in light blue and cream. Pretty pot, but I can't really afford it. Over $400.

Tokoname rounded rectangular 21.65" wide x 4.33" deep. This one comes in light blue and cream. I definitely can't afford this one! Almost $500?

Walsall oval 21.85" wide and 3.94" $240 before shipping. I like these 2 glazes. They don't have solid light blue.

Cream.

White.

Light blue oval Chinese pot at Hollowcreek. 24" wide and 3.5" deep. $190 before shipping. This is the cheapest one of the bunch and looks it.

Which one do you like? The pictures are for color and general shape only. The actually sizes won't have the same proportion.

I'm partial to ovals with maples, and blue and cream colored glazes will usually work. By the way, I think those pots are all too big. The depth is ok, but could definitely go shallower, and the pots are too wide. Depending on the depth of the pot, I'd be looking for something around 16 to 18" wide.

I also have a soft spot for light blues and creams with maples. Honestly, it's so hard for me to find the "right" pot without having the tree and pot next to each other. That said, I would be looking for an oval. And don't go too cheap, you have the makings of a nice tree, and it deserves a nice container! I constantly see nice trees in crap containers at local shows here and it drives me nuts.

The current mustard pot is 17" wide and 4" deep. That's why I selected pots that are around 21" wide and 3.5 deep. The tree is around 24" tall now and would end up being taller with an apex.

Good idea, I'll have to do visual repotting in Paint. I'll post pix.

The blue Tokoname would look really nice with the leaves of your maple. I'd say get that one.

The current top of the tree has a few monotonous curves and lacks taper. If this were my tree, I would consider shortening it by at least 4". I know that can be hard to do, but I think the tree will be better for it down the road. Then, grow out a new and improved apex and get get yourself a 16" wide by 3 " tall blue oval...perfect:D.

I'd going throw this out there:-P

I'd cut the top off more and take a lower branch right below the cut and thread it up. Make that new apex then start on the branches you have. I'd also make a branch coming forward.
Here a simple photo I did. Red is the new thread graft.
