Nanpu-Kai bonsai show 2009

Those are mini-sized bonsai.

3rd pic: wow, California juniper is so tiny. I usually saw California junipers with the massive trunk sizes. Look at this one !! Unbelievable! Bonhe

Thanks for the photos and closeups too. The last tree is very graceful indeed and the eleagnus as well. I also noticed a callistemon as well but think its needs Lo's hand.

I do not mean the bougie but the large Calif. Juni.

want to eat apricot? :) Bonhe

The last tree which I want to show you. This pomegranate is so beautiful. It used to be taken care by Mr. John Yoshio Naka, father of American bonsai. Bonhe.

Hey Bonhe,

Those aren't Marty Mann's trees, they're Roy Nagatoshi (Juniper) & Cheryl Manning. Thanks for the pics they're really appreciated.

They've remodeled the space where the show is and now it's broken up in to two rooms, in the old days the show was across the hall in one large room which made for a much better show! I still love the tree though.

JC

Bonhe, Thank You very much for taking the time to share all these wonderful pictures of the trees with us all...I am very appreciative of the time it takes to take the pictures from site to computer and the reduction to fit here.
Each of the trees are truly works of Art, and the level of care given to them shows in their health and does their owners proud.
I was very happy to not see the deadwood lime sulfured to pasty white but allowed to have a more natural weathering.
Again Thank You very much for sharing these.
Irene

Thanks for the pics Bonhe and Peter! There's a lot of nice trees there!

What is the name of this tree? It looks like an Australian tea tree to me from here. If it is, it is a very example of one. The cork bark on it is very interesting! Or could it be a podocarpus?

It's a Callistemon - Bottlebrush.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callistemon

There are 34 different species of Callistemon, I am not sure which one this belongs to, but it has tiny leaves, which is hard to find.

I don't understand this cork-bark oak tree. Is it yours Peter? How did it get this big with no nebari to show for at all! There should be at least a small nebari beneath the moss. Have you tried to uncover the thick moss a little bit more?

Yes Si... It is my tree and there is nebari under that thick moss but not that great. It was a yard tree 8 ft tall then it was air layered 6 yrs ago and thats why its missing the thick nebari. Anyway, its still looks ok and the moss is been there for the past 6 month and very thick. Height at 43 inches tall.
More photos from my camera ..... enjoy. peter

JC
Thanks for correcting me. Sorry for the error. Bonhe

Right.

The literati Silverberry from Cheryl Manning is the one I was earliner talking about, it hardly has any live wood left.

Hey, that's not apricot. It's a crab apple, and a quince.
Thanks for correcting me.

It's my pleasure, Irene. It totally had 33 trees. Bonhe

I recognize my teacher, Mr. Nguy and his wife; Mr. Hirao; Mr. Nagatoshi; and you. BTW, it looks like you are the youngest one in the group. Congratulation again. Bonhe
