Hey everyone!

Wish I had Internet where I am so I could post pictures. Or better yet wish I could post pictures from my phone.
Anyway, my basement gets down into the 50s at night when it's cold out and normally stays around 65 during the day. So I used my empty fish tank (125gal) to put my tropicals. In the center of the tank I put a bucket of water with an aquarium water heater in it. These are pretty cheap to buy and I had several laying around. I then covered about 3/4 of the tank with plexiglass and obviously put my lights on top.

The results:
Basement temp yesterday was 63.
Tank temp was 74.
Basement temp last night was 54.
My tank temp was 64.
Not only is it keeping the temp of my tank almost at ideal temp it also adds humidity tho it since it is a wet heat. I should be seeing some nice arial roots appearing from my ficus hopefully.

Just thought I'd share this with everyone. I know we all don't have the warmest basements so this might help someone else.

I do this as well, but in a different way. I don't use an aquarium heater, I use a fogger instead:

I have another tank that receives no natural sunlight so I decided to cover the sides in aluminum foil to help reflect the artificial light it receives:

I like it Ryan! Very spooky lol but I'm sure it's very effective. My set up doesn't put out nearly as much moisture as yours.
My main concern was keeping it warm in the tank so I leave it on all the time.
With all that fog where does the water drain to when it settles. I have never seen a fog system. Does it heat the tank also?

I didn't think about using foil on the sides. Mine doesn't get any light either so this is something I will be doing this afternoon.
What do you use for the artificial lighting?

Oh it is extremely effective. Keeps the tropicals pushing growth year round. Also it helps A LOT when it comes to aerial roots. At the bottom of the tank is about two inches of gravel to ensure that any left over water from the fog doesn't pool around the bottom of the pots. If I notice a lot of water down in the gravel I don't run the fogger as the left over water is enough to keep the tank humid as it evaporates from the sun (it's next to a bright window). Usually the sun heats the tank up in the morning and it stays the same temperature throughout the day. For lighting I just use two bulb four foot T8 flourescent shoplights, but I'm looking into some T5s as well.
