Music Stuff

I've been playing an acoustic (terribly) for about a year now. I'd like to upgrade to an acoustic electric and I'm always interested to hear what other people are playing. I've caught on that baritone ukuleles are not very popular :(

The guy who has been teaching me has a U-bass. He'd like to use it when I get good enough to actually play my parts correctly :)
I like the sound of the baritone uke pretty well. Its just tuned like the top four strings of a guitar. My wife plays the mini taylor, traditional uke, and fiddle (as well as literally any other instrument with strings). Im all bass all the time.

Wow, how could i missed this, ive never knew they had a side project, amazing, Phill's best vocals!

I play the stereo 😀

Martin Logan Motion 40's for the rear channel. The AVR drives them and the Martin Logan centre channel,
while the AVR allows the Carver to drive the 4 ohm electrostatics from 1988, for the mains.
AVR's have come a long long way these days. A very accurate Rythmik sub alleviates stress on the mains as well.

Hey @jimib just had a quick question. I'm running my Music Hall MMF - 7 to an Esoteric Audio Research phono preamp/stage which is vacuum tube just like yours. Last week sound was only coming from one speaker. I switched the left/right output from the EAR to my Marantz preamp and sound came from the other speaker meaning that the left output from the EAR is not putting out any sound. Do you think one of the tubes (the EAR has three vacuum tubes) isn't working? Any easy way to tell. Wish for the good old days when I could take it to the local record shop and they can figure it out :)

Sounds like you have it narrowed down to the pre amp. If you haven’t yet you could also swap the left and right cable to make sure it’s not the cable from the phone amp to the pre amp. Also make sure all 4 connections to the cartridge are secure. It could also be the tube..
I also recommend looking at audigon.com. It’s basically this forum for audio. The pros on there know their stuff...sounds like a nice rig btw..

Thanks. I've had the player and the other components for 15 years now and still love the sound! Vinyl is so much fun. My family just gave me a boxed set of all the Queen albums (even has the Flash soundtrack which isn't great but hey now I have it). All the records are colored (kinda like Deep Purple records that are sometimes purple) and its really a great collector's item!
Good thing they bought it. I'd probably never have spent that much!

You can check the tubes with a multimeter.. if current is passing through, you will know if youve got a bad one.

I’m playing everyday, every chance I get. Makes me not care in the least that the trees are all frozen up out there. Getting close to twenty years in and finally getting close to the sounds I’m after, well, on good days or moments anyways. 8BC30924-D07F-4D35-8872-8441710CB3E3.jpeg

An example of the sound below. The original pieces like this were composed by zen monks, not necessarily musicians. Forget about things like rhythm and melodies just lay back in a dark space and listen for textures of sound, tone colours, dynamics..

Thanks for posting. i just love this sound. I wish I could create something as clean as this.

Is your Cordoba a spruce top? I really find myself drawn to spruce tops for their sound profile.

Yes Spruce. It is the Hauser copy from Segovias 1937? Hauser.
Everytime I spend more money on a guitar I am pleasenly suprised. To hear and execute good music(with classical guitar anyway) you need to have the oppertunity on quality sounds from quality instruments eventually.
I rarely need to change strings on this...once a year at most. That is the sign of a good classical guitar that does not sound dull or get quieter as strings age.Eventualy will drop large dough on a top level guitar.....maybe when house is paid off.

I bought a Turntable the other day.

And a couple records. Waiting on a belt in the mail.

Who wouldn't buy a record from a dude with a name like freaking... Engelbert Humperdinck?

If the record is in need of good cleaning and has a lot of pops and cracks but otherwise in good shape
This stuff is the bomb.
They also have a general cleaner then followed by the No.2 sealer/preservative keeps a new record in new
condition for 200 plays.

"Just one 30-second treatment will maintain records' "like-new" condition for 200 plays . Completely safe and non-harmful to the vinyl surface or sound, Record Preservative affects the LP to a depth of approximately 10 molecular layers and becomes part of the groove wall, enhancing molecular stability and the cohesiveness of the groove surface. As a result, the LP completely resists the damaging effects of stylus shock waves and the ensuing wear. You'll prevent pops and ticks, and have records that look and sound as good as the day you took the shrink wrap off the cover ."

I swear by it and used to use it on every new record I bought, then I switched to mostly CDs for convenience sake.
They also have stylus treatments that prevents or limits wear and protects the record.

It's like molybdenum to an engine. You can feel the difference when general cleaning prior to play
the sweep is so much slicker with a treated album.

Skeptics will scoff and say I'm not putting something on my record that's going to
last for 200 plays and "weaken" the sound. WTH! The record came out of a press
and there are substances that are on a new record that build up on the stylus which
in turn wears the groove and the stylus prematurely. I would spend about 20 minutes
sweeping 1/4 of the record at a time starting 12 - 9 O'Clock over and over again with the power cleaner
then move to the next 1/4. 20-30 minutes later the preservative, and the drag on the record
is all but eliminated. Friction causes heat! Hopefully still made in California.

I will have to try that preservative. Makes total sense to me for new records and old records in vg+ or better condition. I dont think theres much sense wasting the preservative (which isnt cheap) on old beat records. Id just use a basic cleaner for those. Even with reduced contact and elimination of production debris, most styli are intended to last for only about 1000hrs.
