METAL TAGS OUT THERE FOR MARKING TREES

I can't remember if I used these or not. Are the ends sealed?
No. I didn't even know they were open till I read your 1st post here
and took my fingernail and pried it apart, shown in the picture bent open.
I thought they were press sealed all along, so it was not visually apparent.
I have a LOT of freeze/thaw cycles in the Ohio River valley and have never experienced a failure.
Probably a different material used inside.

I'll get some and try them. I'll hand seal the ends with silicone this time maybe. Thanks for help.

There are way to many choices!
These are the ones I'm using, in regular size.
So...I just opened one of these by pressing the sides together.
A heavy paper single layer cardboard like piece comprises the center and allows the correct impression
and restricts transfer to opposite side. I doubt they're any different from yours.
I removed the paper centre, and the tag was pretty much shot. I mean wrinkly, but doable.
The long edge is just folded over, not really sealed. No idea why yours are failing.

And maybe I'll try these as they are sturdy and water proof. They have no inner paper product so one has to inscribe with engraver of find the right marking pen like Bonsainut is testing.

It says any sharp object like ball point pen or pencil, so I think you'll be good to go with those and they cost less.
"sharp object like ball point pen or pencil," does not work well at all. Can barely read the inscription. Will use small engraver probably

These are the ones I got for Nao. Our toddler was (and still is 🤦🏻‍♀️) ripping tags out of pots so he needed something he could attach securely to the tree. I read the reviews and they looked solid. No issues so far. She hasn’t learned to untwist them yet….

I have tried these and like them a lot but the ones I had, the ends were not sealed and water got in a started messing with the inner liner and things went to heck in one year. Maybe they have changed the liner. You can write on them pretty easy.

Strange, maybe a faulty batch? If you write the company maybe they can give you replacements. We live in the PNW so the tags get plenty of rain (and the usual daily watering) and no issues so far, but we have only used them since February.

Sounds like you need to cull some trees!
I’ll take the larches😏

Get over here and pick them up. I dug some yesterday and the dirt was like powder...all fell off when collecting. Hope they live. We need the rain that is coming today. I'm going up morrow if you're available. I hear the Capt messed up his leg. Not good!

I use Cole's Aluminum Identifaction Markers. I put them in an old school manual type writer. They come out looking old school classic in part from the old font in the machine. These are the best aluminum tags I've ever seen. I would love to get brass either stamped or engraved. I quality tag says a lot about a tree's owner and gives legitimacy and panache to the tree. White grease pencil on side of pot is usually long lasting.

Do you al have so many trees that you do not know which trees you have that you need to label thme?

When you have a bunch of trees that are the same genus and species but different cultivars, labeling becomes important if you want to remember what’s what.
