Just want to mention that while it isn't impossible, I don't know any potters that have any luck using an airbrush on pottery. Pottery glazes have a lot of particulates in them and always clog up the nozzle. I know of a lot of people who tried it and gave up. Somebody out there is probably doing it but none of the many potters I know.
I talked myself out of trying when I heard of all the problems.

This is a very old Chinese pattern that represents water. Of course it works very well with Japanese ware as well.

Hm... I used a simple mouth-blown atomizer for fixative, in school years ago. For what it's worth, they're available here -- modest & deluxe models

For the kinda of shading of the flowers suggested, it would be near impossible.

...and THAT makes me think of BxW darkroom work, when "dodge & burn" called for paper cut to approximate shapes and taped onto loops of thin wire for handles. Where there's a will, there's an experiment!
