What's up everyone, so I'm in the same situation as many of us and my wife is just about ready to kill me over how much I've already spent this month, but she also really like crabapple trees and pretty much anything that fruits nicely (persimmons especially) but I'd like to gift her a tree of her own to look after.

Preferably not looking to spend too much but let me know if there's anything available...

Thanks!

Gonzoe, where do you live? You can put the location in your profile and that will help us come up with some reasonable suggestions for you

Im in Los Angeles, I'll update my profile rn, thanks again!

It may also be helpful to know what range you’re looking at. What not spending too much looks like varies widely.. <$100 USD, 300? 500? 1000? More than that and you’re probably outside what most would consider not too much but someone like @IzzyG would contradict me…

Prolly around $500 would be good, but it all depends on age and condition as well. As you said, it can vary. $1000 can be a really good deal if you’re looking at a real healthy fat cat… but yea, $500 would be a good price point, and I can promise it’ll have a nice home where it’s taken care of well everyday.

Are you involved with a local club? Even if you aren't, you could reach out and they may be able to put you in touch with local suppliers or club members who might have what you're looking for. Or, like ours up here, they may put on club sales and auctions throughout the year. If you don't find anything through here anyway...

Yea, there are a few around LA so I definitely need to join. I’m still a rookie, but I’m constantly in nurseries, and in general looking for raw material, so I don’t know why I’ve hesitated honestly

Why don't you go to House of Bonsai and see what they have to offer. They have all kind of pre-bonsai that won't let you leave empty handed. It always better to see the tree before you spend the money.

Crabapples don't do great in SoCal, our winters don't get cold enough to get the flowers and fruit they are known for. If you still want to try, House of Bonsai had some last time I was there (but that was a couple years ago).
Well, snap! That's something for him to consider then.

I agree with reaching out to the local clubs. Members usually have great material for sale that is otherwise not publicized along with connections. But it can take a little effort and time to meet and talk to people. But is a great experience! Good luck finding the right tree’s for your garden!

I was just there talking to Vicky this last week. They have a good amount, but they’re about a G for decent ones
