I collected this Larch in 2021 fall. It was growing in a harsh windy lake shore and at some point something heavy had fallen on it.

I love odd trees that are unique and this one was going to be fun. I bent the top down in 2023 but was not happy with the look so over time I bent the top more and more and compressed the green.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

That is a very cool collected larch with a great trunk. I suspect you’re also aware that the straight, almost horizontal branch from which the apical branch originates is quite jarring.

The position and shape of this branch is likely impossible to change without some more invasive procedures like branch splitting.

Do you plan on concealing this area with foliage in the future?

Yes this was the big issue, but it is actually much better than it was after some heavy bending. It actually doesn't look bad in person but I do think I might add a bit of shari there and put some foliage in there as well. Thanks.

Oh what a fun start! Great find, I like the way you’re building up the composition. Does all the foliage emerge from that upper section you’re bending?

Yeah, a great find. In terms of a straight branch… l wouldn’t worry about it. With wild trees you get what you get and work with it. I think you did a good job keeping the wildness of the tree.

Thank you! Thankfully this has three areas of foliage and two are lower than that upper piece. A lot of the best Larch I see in the wild don’t have any foliage down low but lucky this one does.

Beautiful tree. I see that sharp bend to horizontal before going back up again as a plus instead of an issue.

Love seeing your post’s! Really cool how you used that lowest branch to the left to give the illusion as if it was a root. Seems to give the nebari more balance. Will be cool to see the progress!
