I've got a larch I've been growing for maybe 10-15 years, including some time in the ground. I made a poor cut maybe 5 years ago and have been scratching my head since on what to do next. As you can see it's not a wide, or strongly tapered trunk, so not really much good for any of the classic styles. Around here we have a lot of pine forests, planted after the first world war to act as a national timber reserve. As I go out cycling I pass a lot of them, and I must have absorbed styling ideas from them as I went. They tend to be quite straight, slender trunks, a lot of them with broken off tops and lots of deadwood.
I've sort of tried to follow that in general. By no means the finished article, but I think a good starting point

And a close up on the apex, which will be further carved
