started an airlayer for the yard. i need a dedicated mom i can depend on for cuttings every year

small layer is healing up from the slip of the wrist




and i noticed something about the medium layer after the storm today. we're about 4 1/2 weeks in now.

separated the february cuttings. this substrate washes right off so no serious root stress. i did cut one or two overly strong roots, though.

What was your success rate on cuttings and what was your method? I have a little one and it would be nice to be able to use smaller trimmings for something.

this is what they looked like on February 11th when i took them. you could tell the tree was awake. i used a razor to cut close to a node at a slight angle. dip in clonex and pot up into coco coir/ perlite mix and put under a dome till leaves start coming out. 14 out of 17 rooted

i swear(a lot ), trying to get stuff on video is hard as f$#@! I've been trying to get back into it with these kotohimes.

this branch is like, "soil's close enough, let's go!"



when it's finished walling off it'll start pushing new growth below the layer like if you pruned the branch off already.



the colander is about to start pruning these new strong roots for me.

nice growth this year. i might reduce the sacrifice clump to one branch. not going to cut the sacrifices till i see if they'll help thicken the trunk or not. if i see inverse taper I'll go ahead and delete them. i like how quickly the scars are healing up.
