looks like this cutting from last year is going to be a beast. thinking about adding one of these rocks i found to the composition.

Did you airlayer just by using the wire to act like a ring? (can't remember the technique name)

here's a pic from post #199

i only put wire on the bottom to stop callus from moving up. this cultivar naturally swells at the base when taking cuttings and airlayers, so i don't need extra compression or something for the callus to roll over to make it wider at the nebari. i didn't use rooting hormone on this one, either. big callus and fast rooting is just it's thing. I always have to remove a lot of roots that pop out above the cut site on the trunk. 5 removed on this tree before i even separated it. i like coco/perlite because it doesn't obstruct the fine roots from extending while still having good density and pressure on the tree, while being fast draining and getting a good gas exchange, and for how easy it is to check out what's going on at the cut site

Looking great, man. Thanks for keeping such detailed progress threads, it's really helpful to see these evolve over time.

Are you worried at all about keeping so many branches on the low trunk? Can this lead to taper issues, or do you plan to select ones to keep before they get too big?

definitely going to delete anything that looks like it'll lead to reverse taper while trying to keep as many branches as possible.

My kotohime barely grew much this season. No idea why. How did you push growth?
