Kiyozuru Itoigawa from Chikugo-en

Pruned and wired this one out over the last few days. I extended the Shari, and while it looks a little striped right now, I’ll eventually merge two of them together.

Looking forward to repotting it into a better pot at the new angle, which will show off the movement at the base.

Lots of work still to do at the apex, but it will grow plenty of options next year.

I don’t love the foliage pattern of the Kiyozuru nearly as much as regular itoigawa. The difference is almost like this:

Maybe it will tighten up over time or with more regular pinching, but in 4 years it has been pretty consistent.

Yes, it's mostly his southern charm infused into the live vein. Rumor has it that if you peel the bark at the right season, you'll notice a hint of Southern sweet tea instead of the evergreen musk of Junipers...
