Juniperus virginniana "grey owl"

I'm officially naming these Growling Juniperus.

Didn't Ron Weasly get a Growler?

yesterday i took the tree with me to the classes im taking.
we discussed repotting, the foliage and future design and steps to take to get there.
im in no hurry so this tree will be slowly prepared to be styled beacause its kind of a difficult tree the top foliage comes from 3 main branches wich are poorely placed
so for now i will keep all options open.

repotting will be done next year

@MichaelS my teacher told me that he has experience with this species
he used to have one himself he told me the foliage is no problem and that it will get fine enough probably not as fine as shimpaku but good enough
so i will let him guide me in the steps to get it right and gonna prove you wrong :P (i hope)

this is how the tree looks now :

deadwood work will wait untill the final design is chosen
going to be fun to do because there is already a nice amount of dead parts !

Ive read allot about these that they start pushing juvi foliage when you even think of pruning but it got pruned pretty hard and so far no juvi foliage grew just scale foliage yeah!

Nice.
I think it has to do with the health of the plant too. You gotta healthy plant!
Nothing I've read about reverting has ever happened for me. More the opposite. Blah!

Nice tree!

When will you give it the first styling?

Thnx!
Its been reduced in foliage quite a bit already so i guess late winter/spring next year because ill have to adjust the planting angle but no clue on whats still hidden below the soil

My fingers do itch tough id love to get the dremel out and do some carving but i want to wait till the basic structure is set

Thinned this one out some more and put raffia on the thicker branches and put the thick wire in

Tonight ill start wireing the smaller branches and hopefully completely wire this tree this week so i can bring it over to my teacher so we can start to put the basic shape into this bush and decide on the front after that ill be able to do some deadwood work :)

In your semi-last picture, it almost looks like you broke the branch. Is it just a picture?

Neat wiring though.

Thnx i think i am slowly getting the hang of the wire process

No broken branches that i know off probably just the pic i hope could you point an arrow where you lookin at?

not sure if its the same spot, but I initial thought the same on the 2nd/middle picture the first branch does a almost a 90 degree turn left. the part with no raffia, that spot is shaded but looked like cracking but after looking at others pics, 1st, I think its just a nic in the bark.

Great material with options, look forward to the progression. and I thought the wiring was good, I have some thicker material to do soon and still developing my skills, ha.

Went to class today took this one with me and set the basic structure and decided on the best front with my teacher the low big branch i fully wired got sawwed off but still it was good wireing practice lol

Now as my homework i have to finish the fine wireing to place all the foliage in the right place's in two weeks from now and also then we will work out some shari
