Juniperus Virginiana (Eastern Red Cedar) #1

Went over this tree today on the bench. Happy with progress actually. I removed wire and added some back at the top of the tree. It has a few too many branches in the middle part of the tree. I think a slight front adjustment shows a little more trunk finesse. Plan for next year: Fertilize heavily, let it grow one more year then repot the following year. I know it could probably use a repot again next spring but I'm going to go one more growing year.

Not sure whats going on. Tips are not looking healthy. Think its root related. Going to emergency repot

Good luck, hoping for the best for your tree. I was able to learn from your method and successfully treat a rust attack on my ERC earlier this spring and it is doing fantastic as a result. Hopefully just some kind of root issue you can get turned around, they seem pretty resilient.

This one bit the dust. The rust at the base had girdled the trunk and killed it off.

I’m sorry to hear the tree died. But thanks to this thread, I’m going to look over this tree for rust tomorrow. It seems to be dying, but that may be because I foolishly saved it from the mower two weeks ago instead of waiting for the end of the winter.
